Weather alters tourney schedules

Tropical Storm Cindy’s potential effects on the Tri-City area have prompted officials to alter the schedules of the Babe Ruth Louisiana State Softball Tournament and the District 3 AA Dixie Youth Baseball Tournament before both even have begun.
The Babe Ruth state tournament, which was scheduled to begin Wednesday and run through Saturday at Kemper Williams Park near Patterson, has been shortened a day to a Thursday-Saturday event.
The first day was to feature exhibition games in various age groups, and those have been wiped out.
Instead, State Softball Commissioner Brien Laurent said Tuesday afternoon that, weather permitting and contingent on the fields being in good enough condition, teams simply will begin bracket play Thursday at noon in all age groups.
Teams will play games on four fields, with the 8U, 10U and 12U teams each having their own fields. The 14U and 18U teams, which have much fewer teams, will share a field and will alternate play between the age groups, with the 18U starting first.
The Tri-City area is represented by all-star teams from Patterson in ages 8U, 10U and 12U.
Meanwhile, in Morgan City, the District 3 AA Dixie Yo u t h B a s e b a l l Tournament will begin Thursday at Morgan City’s Complex Park instead of Wednesday.
The revised slate is as follows:
— T h u r s d a y : Thibodaux vs. Morgan City at 5:30 p.m. and Patterson vs. St. Mary Central at 6:45 p.m.
—Friday: Morgan City vs. Franklin at 5 : 3 0 p . m . a n d T h i b o d a u x v s . Patterson at 6:45 p.m.
