Trio of 10-year-old All-Star teams still in contention for district title
The Morgan City, Patterson and St. Mary Central 10-year-old AllStars have a lot to play for Wednesday night on the final day of competition at the Dixie Youth District 3 AAA baseball tournament as all three still are in contention for the top two spots to advance to regional play.
Patterson is in the driver’s seat with a 3-0 mark, while Morgan City and St. Mary Central each are 2-1.
Patterson can win the district outright with a win against St. Mary Central Wednesday. However, if Patterson loses and Morgan City defeats Franklin, it will forge a three-way tie atop the district standings. In that scenario, head-to-head matchups can’t be used to determine the district champion because each team has beaten at least one other team.
Therefore, the tiebreaker to be used would be least amount of runs allowed combined against one another in their matchups. Once the champion is decided, then the runner-up can be decided using the original head-to-head matchup.
However, if Morgan City and Patterson each win Wednesday night, Patterson will win the district title, and Morgan City will be runner-up.
Patterson has defeated Morgan City, 4-2; Thibodaux, 13-0; and Franklin, 17-2. Morgan City has defeated St. Mary Central, 5-3; fell to Patterson and defeated Thibodaux, 16-0, Monday.
After falling to Morgan City in its opener Saturday, St. Mary Central defeated Thibodaux, 4-2, Sunday and Franklin, 15-3, Monday.
