Sixth annual pickleball tourney is set for Jan. 25
The Krewe of Pickleball will be hosting its Sixth Fun Pickleball Tournament Jan. 25, starting at 8 a.m. at Berwick Civic Complex.
There will be 30 competitive teams, including local individuals and teams from various parts of Louisiana and Mississippi. These teams will be participating in Men’s Doubles, Ladies Doubles and Mixed Doubles.
Because of the many participants, games will be played at the Bayou Vista Community Center, also. Teams will be playing at both locations simultaneously to facilitate an on-going tournament schedule.
Pickleball is an international sport that has been gaining popularity and momentum in recent years, Linda Thomas of the Krewe of Pickleball said. In addition to providing great exercise and enjoyment, the strategy is the same as tennis, Thomas said.
Locally, the sport has been played for about 11 years, Thomas said.
The public is welcomed to attend the tournament, which will be free.
