Patterson 12U softball wins Southwest Regional opener

The Patterson 12-year-old All-Stars advanced to the semifinal round of the Babe Ruth Southwest Regional in Houma with a 15-1 win against Iberville in four innings Wednesday.
While Patterson led just 3-1 after two innings, the local squad erupted for nine runs in the top of the third for a 12-1 lead. Patterson scored three more in the fourth.
Patterson now will face Jefferson Parish Recreation Department East Thursday at 1 p.m. JPRD East has defeated Patterson three out of their four meetings this season, including a rain-shortened win in the Louisiana state championship last month. The winner of the JPRD East-Patterson game will advance to the tournament’s championship Friday at noon and will have to be beaten twice to win the Southwest Regional.
Meanwhile, the loser will fall to the elimination bracket where it must defeat a yet-to-be determined opponent before advancing to the championship game where it then must record back-to-back victories.
JPRD East advanced to the semifinal game after defeating JPRD West, 14-0,
In Patterson’s win against Iberville, Patterson outhit its opponents, 18-1.
Hillary Pillaro led Patterson with a 3-for-4 performance with four RBIs, a stolen base and two runs scored. Other top Patterson offensive contributors included Emily Lipari, 3-for-4 with two RBIs, a stolen base and two runs scored; Mikah Ortiz, 2-for-4, a double, two RBIs, a stolen base and two runs scored; Ana Vaccarella, 2-for-3, two RBIs; Abbie Scully, 2-for-3; Kamille Lightfoot, 1-for-1, an RBI, two stolen bases and two runs scored; Maggie Lemoine, 1-for-4, two RBIs and two runs scored; Olivia Black, 1-for-2, an RBI; Hailey Skiles, 1-for2, a stolen base and two runs scored; Amaya Williams, 1-for-2, a stolen base and a run scored; and Bryleigh DeHart, 1-for-1, two runs scored.
On the mound, Laila Dugar earned the win as she pitched two innings and surrendered no runs, hits or walks. Black also pitched two innings and surrendered one run (one earned) on one hit with one hit batter and one strikeout.
Patterson 8s fall
The Patterson 8-year-old All-Stars fell to Dewitt, 12-1, in first-round action Wednesday at the Babe Ruth Southwest Regional in Houma.
Patterson returned to action Thursday morning in an elimination contest against St. Charles.
After defeating H a r a h a n 1 6 - 6 Wednesday, St. Charles fell to the elimination bracket after falling to Covington, Alabama, 12-8.
