Mixed results in high school hoops scores

The Berwick Panthers defeated Highland Baptist 46-39 in overtime at Berwick Friday.
While Berwick led 31-24 heading into the fourth quarter, Highland Baptist outscored the Panthers 14-7 in the final period to force overtime with the score tied at 38.
However, in overtime, Berwick outscored Highland Baptist 8-1 for the victory.
Early on, Berwick took a 14-4 lead after a period of play, and Berwick led 25-15 at halftime. Highland Baptist outscored Berwick 9-6 in the third quarter.
Blain Louviere led Berwick in scoring with 17 points, while Dayton Clark had a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Seth Canty also scored eight points and had four steals for the Panthers.
Berwick (3-3) will return to action Tuesday when it travels to face Westminster Christian. Junior varsity boys’ action is set for a 5:30 p.m. start, with varsity girls’ and varsity boys’ action to follow.
Morgan City goes
1-2 at tourney
The Morgan City Tigers finished 1-2 at H.L. Bourgeois’ tournament, dropping games to H.L. Bourgeois and Central Lafourche and defeating Destrehan.
Thursday, Morgan City fell to H.L. Bourgeois 61-40.
H.L. Bourgeois outscored Morgan City in every quarter, taking a 14-12 lead after a quarter, leading 32-25 at halftime and holding a 50-33 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Nylan Francis led Morgan City with 17 points. Other Morgan City scorers were Devonta Grogan, 13; Tylan Bennet, four; and Lorenzo Johnson, Leo Garret and Hilton Hebert, two each.
Friday, Morgan City fell to Central Lafourche 65-43.
Saturday, Morgan City defeated Destrehan 46-33.
Morgan City led 11-6 after a quarter, held a 25-21 halftime advantage and took a 34-27 lead into the fourth quarter.
Francis led Morgan City with 12 points. Other Morgan City scorers were Garret and Grogan with seven each; Johnson and Bennet, six each; Hebert, five; and Shemar Naverre, three.
Morgan City (6-6) will return to action Wednesday in New Iberia’s Truyou Battle in Da Berry when it meets Lafayette High at 4 p.m.
Patterson wins
tourney finale
The Patterson Lumberjacks won their final game at the Fontainebleau High School Bulldog Classic Friday, defeating the host squad 62-57.
Tops on the board for the Lumberjacks was Elijah Williams with 16. Also contributing to the winning effort were Randy Paul Jr. with 12, Kai Schexnayder and Kyler “K.J.” Paul both added 11, Tyrone Tillman put up nine, Ty Walton added two and Louis Jones had one.
Patterson (7-5) will return to action Monday when it hosts South Terrebonne.
Lady Panthers fall
to Highland Baptist
The Berwick Lady Panthers fell to Highland Baptist 48-38 in Berwick Friday.
Lay Bertrand led Berwick with 23 points. Other Berwick scorers were Arianna Jones, nine; and Bronwyn Colbert, six.
Berwick (3-6) will return to action Tuesday when it travels to face Westminster Christian. Varsity girls’ action will begin following the boys’ junior varsity contest, which is set for a 5:30 p.m. start.
Lumberjills fall to CCA
The Patterson Lumberjills fell to Covenant Christian Academy on the road 46-36 Friday.
High scorer for the Lumberjills was Nyla Phillips with 12 followed by Randalyn Paul with 10. Also contributing were Keyala Hawkins each with nine, Keatyn Harden with four and Brianna Simon with one.
Patterson (5-6) will return to action Tuesday when it hosts Loreauville at 5:30 p.m.
Central Lafourche rolls past Lady Tigers
Central Lafourche defeated the Morgan City Lady Tigers 62-42 in Morgan City Friday.
Central Lafourche led 20-10 after a quarter, took a 36-18 lead into halftime and extended its lead to 53-29 after three periods of play.
Haylie Crappell led Morgan City with 15 points. Other Morgan City scorers were Deryon Johnson, 12; Ta’lea Smith, six; Nikeisha Paddio, five; and India Richardson and Madelyn Poole, two each.
Morgan City (3-7) will return to action Monday when it hosts Jeanerette.
