Berwick will close season Saturday

The Berwick Lady Panthers will conclude their season Saturday when it travels to face Morgan City in nondistrict action.
The Lady Panthers are 8-16 this season and finished District 9-3A action with an 0-5 record.
The squad is led by first-year coach and former Berwick High standout Abigail Ohlin and assistant coach Derek Ribardi. Ohlin said during an interview last month that the coaching staff is trying to rebuild Berwick’s program.
While the Lady Panthers entered this season having to replace guard Madison Carline, a Louisiana Sports Writers Association Class 3A All-State honorable mention selection a year ago, newcomer, junior Jalaysia “Lay” Bertrand has filled the void, dominating the stat sheet for the Lady Panthers.
The Lady Panthers will be looking to close the season Saturday on a positive note and break a five-game losing streak since their last win, a 49-28 victory against Grand Isle on Jan. 21.
Berwick’s wins this season have come against Centerville twice, Erath, Academy of Sacred Heart of New Orleans, Westminster Christian, Ascension Catholic and Thrive Academy.
In addition to Bertrand, other members of the Berwick High School basketball team are as follows: seniors Emily Lousteau, Casey Crowe and Bethanie Coleman; juniors Arianna Jones and Bronwyn Colbert; and sophomores Chloe Moses, Katy Lousteau and Lily Eues.
