Vermilion Catholic defeats Central Catholic via a walk-off hit

No. 5 Central Catholic mounted a huge rally in the latter innings and nearly forced extra innings with No. 1-ranked Vermilion Catholic in the Division IV semifinals Saturday at Frasch Park.

No. 5 Central Catholic used an eight-run third inning to distance itself from No. 4 False River Academy en route to a 12-5 win in Division IV quarterfinal action at Frasch Park Thursday.

Berwick and Patterson high schools will meet in a best two-out-of-three series in the Class 3A Regional round Friday and Saturday in Berwick. Berwick and Patterson to meet in weekend playoff series

District 8-3A rivals Berwick and Patterson split their regular season contests.

Morgan City High School, Class 4A's No. 3 seed will meet No. 11 seed West Ouachita in the Class 4A quarterfinals Friday at noon at Frasch Park in Sulphur. Morgan City is making its first quarterfinal appearance since 2004, while West Ouachita is making its 11th straight state tournament appearance. No. 3 Morgan City High School will begin play in the state tournament at Frasch Park in Sulphur Friday when it meets No. 11 West Ouachita in a noon contest on Field 15.
