Canty throws no-hitter as Panthers rout Thibodaux 12-0
Berwick High School’s Seth Canty tossed a no-hitter, and the Panthers routed Thibodaux 12-0 in five innings in Berwick Tuesday.
Canty pitched five innings and allowed fanned five. He was two baserunners away from a perfect game as two Thibodaux batters reached base. One was hit by a pitch and one reached on an error.
Of the 51 pitches Canty threw, 39 were for strikes.
Offensively, Berwick totaled 12 hits.
Hunter Landry led the squad with a 3-for-4 performance with two RBIs and two runs. Other top Berwick contributors were Mitchell Sanford, 2-for-3 with a triple, two RBIs and two runs; Brett Williams, 2-for-3, a triple and two runs; Barrett Hover, 2-for-2, an RBI, a stolen base and a run; Zeph Delatte, 1-for-2 with two RBIs and a stolen base; and Zeph Hoffpauir, 1-for-3, two RBIs, a stolen base and a run.
Berwick (5-1) will return to action Thursday when it opens play in its Panther Classic with a 6:30 p.m. contest against Central Catholic.
Morgan City falls
Plaquemine defeated Morgan City 13-1 in five innings at Plaquemine Tuesday.
Plaquemine a 9-0 lead into the top of the fourth, and Morgan City scored a run in its fourth-inning at bat. Plaquemine scored four runs in the bottom of the frame, and the game was called in the fifth due to the 10-run mercy rule.
Of Plaquemine’s 13 runs, just seven were earned as Morgan City committed four errors. Plaquemine surrendered an unearned run to Morgan City.
Morgan City was limited to two hits.
Dylan Tingle led Morgan City with a 1-for-2 performance with an RBI and a stolen base, while Kyle Ring was 1-for-3 with a double.
Chris Pitre suffered the loss as he surrendered six runs (three earned) on two hits with five walks, one hit batter and three strikeouts.
Morgan City (1-4) will return to action Thursday when it begins play in Berwick’s Panther Classic with a 4 p.m. contest against Covenant Christian Academy.
New Iberia tops CCHS
New Iberia defeated Central Catholic 2-1 in high school baseball action in Amelia Monday.
New Iberia scored both of its runs in the top of the third, while Central Catholic scored a run in the bottom of the sixth.
Hits were minimal as Central Catholic and New Iberia engaged in a pitching duel.
New Iberia had nine strikeouts, while Central Catholic’s Caleb Menina had 10.
The Yellow Jackets limited Central Catholic to five hits, while Menina and reliever Nathan Hebb limited New Iberia to five combined hits.
Menina suffered the loss. In 6.2 innings, he surrendered two earned runs on five hits with one walk and 10 strikeouts.
Hunter Daigle had the Eagles’ lone hit as he finished 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI.
Central Catholic (2-1) will return to action Thursday when it opens play in Berwick’s Panther Classic against Berwick at 6:30 p.m.
