Berwick Lady Panthers top David Thibodaux 48-41

The Berwick Lady Panthers defeated David Thibodaux 48-41 in District 8-3A action in Berwick Tuesday.
The win snapped a five-game losing streak.
No individual stats were available.
Berwick (5-15 overall, 2-6 in district) will return to action Friday when it hosts Patterson in district play.

David Thibodaux defeated Berwick 81-25 in boys District 8-3A basketball action at Berwick Tuesday.
David Thibodaux led 30-8 after a quarter, 46-11 at halftime and 65-19 after three periods of play.
Blain Louviere led Berwick with seven points. Other Berwick scorers were Dayton Clark, six; Jamerson Williams, four; and Julius Ziegler, Hilton Span, Alvin Jones and Chris Jones, two points apiece.
Berwick (1-20, 1-5) will return to action Friday when it hosts Patterson.
Patterson upsets
Abbeville
The Patterson Lumberjacks upset Abbeville 56-48 on the road in boys’ basketball action Tuesday.
Abbeville entered the game ranked fifth in the latest Louisiana High School Athletic Association Class 3A power rankings, while Patterson was ranked No. 14.
Patterson led 12-7 after a quarter, 24-18 at halftime and 40-34 after three periods of play.
Elijah Williams led three Lumberjacks in double figures with 18 points. Other Patterson scorers were Kai Schexnayder, 16; Dajon Richard, 11; Tyrone Tillman, six; Kyler Paul, three; and James Butler, two.
Patterson (12-7) will return to action Thursday when it makes the short trip to Morgan City to face Central Catholic in nondistrict action.
CCHS tops
North Vermilion
The Central Catholic Eagles edged North Vermilion 56-54 in nondistrict action on the road Tuesday.
North Vermilion led 12-7 after a quarter, but Central Catholic outscored them 21-17 in the second period to cut its deficit to 29-28 at halftime. The Eagles led 43-42 after three quarters and outscored North Vermilion 13-12 in the final period.
Brooks Thomas led Central Catholic with 22 points, while Elijah Swan also reached double figures with 18. Other Central Catholic scorers were D.J. Lewis and Taylor Blanchard, six each; and Tyler Smith, four.
With the win, Central Catholic now has won nine straight.
The Eagles (15-5) will return to the court Thursday when they host Patterson.
Morgan City falls
to Port Allen
The Morgan City Tigers fell 65-55 on the road to Port Allen in nondistrict play Tuesday.
Jared Singleton led three Tigers in double figures with 19 points. Other Morgan City scorers were Deondre Grogan, 14; Kerwin Francois, 11; Devonta Grogan, nine; and Leo Garrett, two.
Morgan City (11-10) will return to action Friday when it hosts Terrebonne.
Lumberjills fall
to Abbeville
The Patterson Lumberjills fell on the road to Abbeville 53-32 in District 8-3A girls’ basketball action.
De’Asha Williams led Patterson with a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. She added two steals and two blocked shots. Other Patterson contributors were Zorrie Spain, 10 points, five rebounds and two steals; La’Nashia Firmin, seven points, three rebounds; and one steal; Kaylon Smith and Aniyah Martin, two points and two rebounds apiece; Randalyn Paul, nine rebounds; and Alayah Williams, five rebounds.
Patterson (7-12, 1-6) will return to action Friday when it plays at Berwick in district action.
VC tops Lady Eagles
Vermilion Catholic defeated Central Catholic 55-36 in District 7-1A action in Abbeville Tuesday.
While Vermilion Catholic led just 15-14 after a quarter, the home squad used a 20-5 second-quarter scoring outburst to take control for a 35-19 halftime lead. Vermilion Catholic led 46-27 heading into the final period.
Yani Johnson led Central Catholic with 20 points, while Lexi Landry also reached double figures with 11. Other Central Catholic scorers were Charlotte Callais, three; and Sydney Williams, two.
Central Catholic (6-16, 0-1) will return to action Friday when it hosts Gueydan.
