WSM Lady Wolfpack win District 6-2A track crown
DELCAMBRE _ Paced by the efforts of Outstanding Field Award winner Gentrell Wells and Outstanding Track performer Naishaylyn Brown, the West St. Mary Lady Wolfpack at Wednesday’s District 6-2A Meet at Delcambre High School Track.
Delcambre amassed 142 points to win the boys title with Catholic High finishing second with 129 points ahead of third place West St. Mary (47), Loreauville (42) and Jeanerette (11).
Kyler Jackson led the West St. Mary Wolfpack with a pair of victories in the 110 hurdles (15.93) and the 300 hurdles (42.63).
The West St. Mary Lady Wolfpack won the girls crown, holding off second place Catholic High of New Iberia 85-84. Delcambre was third with 82 points with Jeanerette finishing a distant fourth with 21 points.
Wells was named the Outstanding Field winner while Naishaylyn Brown earned the Outstanding Track honor and Alexa Grossie of Delcambre was named the Outstanding Performer.
Wells won the javelin (125-9) and was in the shot put (29-1 ¾) while placing third in the discus (87-8) to garner the Outstanding Field honor.
Naishaylyn Brown earned the Outstanding Track honor after besting the field in both the 100 (12.79) and 200 (26.92) while also running legs on the Lady Wolfpack winning 4x100 and 4x200 meter relay teams. In both winning relay efforts, Brown joined up with Rhayla Marks, Sequoya Ferguson and Ja’azha Scott to break the tape.
West St. Mary’s Gerianna Lyons was also a double winner, taking first place in both the shot put (38-7) and discus (117-0).
WSM’s Kimberleigh Theriot won the high jump (4-8) while Kimberly Druilhet won the 100 hurdles (18.12) to wrap up the Lady Wolfpack nine victories on the day.
