WSM’s Lyons posts wins in Class 2A
BATON ROUGE _ West St. Mary’s Gerianna Lyons successfully defended her 2012 titles with a pair of victories Friday in the Girls 2A Louisiana High School Athletic Association/State Farm Track and Field Outdoor Championships at LSU’s Bernie Moore Stadium.
Lyons uncorked a throw of 39-3 ¾ to win the girls’ 2A shot put while also winning the discus with a throw of 110-5.
West St. Mary’s Gentrell Wells finished as the State Class 2A runnerup in the javelin with a throw of 130-11.
West St. Mary’s 4x100 meter relay team of Naishaylyn Brown, Ja’azha Scott, Jamiaha Vincent and Rhaya Marks turned in a fifth place time of 53.55 in the state meet.
Holy Savior Menard won the girls State Track and Field 2A Title with 64 points. Episcopal of Baton Rouge was second with 59 points with Newman of New Orleans finishing third with 44 points. St. Thomas Aquinas was fourth with 37 points ahead of fifth-place finisher West St. Mary with 31 points.
HANSON MEMORIAL’S Kade Naquin earned a third place finish in the javelin in Friday’s Class A track and field meet. Naquin’s throw measured 168-5 for third place.
Southern Lab won the boys division of the Class 1A track and field meet with 70 points. Hasnon finished in a tie for 25th place with East Iberville with six points.
Franklin Senior High School’s Cedric Paul and Damien Williams earned second place finishes in the Louisiana High School Athletic Association/State Farm Championships Saturday at LSU’s Bernie Moore Track Stadium.
Franklin finished tied for ninth place with Buckeye with 20 points in the 3A state track and field meet .
Paul was second in the shot putt at 54-4 ¼ while Williams earned a second place finish in the 110-meter hurdles with a 15.14 reading.
Williams also earned a fourth place finish in the 300 hurdles with a 41.33 reading while placing seventh in the 100 with an 11.39 reading.
The Hornets 4x400 meter relay unit of Trey Rouchon, Trevious Rouchon, Jarion Brown and Larry Grimm placed seventh with a 3:34.58 reading.
IN THE GIRLS LHSAA/STATE FARM 3A track and field meet, the Franklin Lady Hornets finished tied for 23th with Glen Oaks and Patterson with 8 points.
Franklin’s 4x200 meter relay team of Destinee Rice, Robyn Rollins, Wyneisha Jenkins and Fabian Small took third place with a 1:45,75 clocking. Rice, Rollins, Jenkins and Small were fifth in the 4x100 with a 50.28 reading.
In Thursday’s Class B State Meet, Centerville’s Olivia Thibodaux placed fifth in the discus at 86-7.
The Centerville 4x200 relay team was second (1:32.35) while the 4x400 meter team also placed second zzz93:490.72). The 4x100 meter relay team placed third (45.05) while Lamonta Thomas took fourth place in the 100 (11.58) and sixth in the 200 (23.70).
The Centerville Bulldogs finished in seventh place with a team total fo 27 points.
