Wreck on bridge caused by two drunk drivers
A head-on accident Friday night between two drunk drivers caused traffic snarls and sent two to the hospital.
Edwin Maradiaga, 24, of Metairie received moderate injuries and was charged with one-way roadway, operating a motor vehicle without a lawful presence in the United States, operating a vehicle intoxicated, and first offense driving while intoxicated. He was transported to Terrebonne General Medical Center in Houma.
He drove his 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse the wrong way up the bridge and collided with Bernie Arnould, 50, of Morgan City. Arnould was charged with first offense DWI and open alcoholic container.
He also received moderate injuries and was transported to Teche Regional Medical Center.
The accident occurred at 10:23 p.m. and caused the closure of the bridge for a time as Acadian AirMed came in to treat the victims. Blood was drawn from both men because of the accident.
The condition of neither driver was available this morning.
