Portions of the Siracusaville community were without water this morning after a drunk driver hit a fire hydrant located about one-quarter mile east of the Siracusaville Recreation Center, causing a water main break. St. Mary Parish Water District 1 Operations Manager Brian Tabor said the 10-inch main repair caused water to be turned off, affecting the areas between the Bayou Ramos bridge and the subdivision, along with a pre-kindergarten at the recreation center which suspended classes for the day. Lenny Steel, 27, of Morgan City was charged with careless operation and first offense driving while intoxicated with an accident by the Louisiana State Police after the accident at 12:47 a.m. today, according to LSP Troop I Public Information Officer Stephen Hammons. Steel's blood alcohol level was .145 percent, Hammons said. At press time, Tabor said water service was anticipated to be restored by early afternoon.
