VOLLEYBALL: Lady Eagles beat another big school at home

The Central Catholic volleyball team continued its winning ways on Tuesday with a 3-1 victory over Ellender (19-25, 25-14, 25-10, 25-13) at the Matchbox.

The Lady Eagles are now 11-4 on the season and sit in the top spot of the Louisiana High School Athletic Association unofficial Division V power rankings after three weeks of play.

CCHS has only lost to teams ranked in the top 3 in the power rankings. Episcopal of Acadiana is No. 2 in Division V, Vandebilt Catholic is No. 1 in Division III, St. Martinville is No. 3 in Division II, and OP Walker is No. 2 in Division II.

On Tuesday the Lady Eagles were led by Celine Flores who had 13 digs, four aces and eight kills; Abbie Bergeron had 11 digs and an ace; Amanda Barron had three kills, two blocks and a dig; Brienna Hill had four kills, two blocks and a dig; Caroline Byrne had one of her best games of the season with 32 assists, four digs and two kills; Maria Templet had two digs; and Meo Knight had 16 kills, 14 digs, two aces and a block.

The Lady Eagles relied on some younger players against Ellender and they came through with sophomore Olivia Crawford finishing with six kills and four aces, and freshman Megan Landry had two kills and a block.

CCHS will travel to HL Bourgeois for its next game on Thursday.

Berwick falls on the road

The Lady Panthers traveled to Houma on Tuesday and picked up a 3-0 loss (10-25, 6-25, 11-25) at the hands of Vandebilt Catholic.

The Lady Terriers are the top ranked team in Division III.

Berwick will host HL Bourgeois on Saturday at 10 a.m.

Lady Tigers struggle against HCA

The Morgan City volleyball team faced a tough Houma Christian squad in Houma on Tuesday and lost 3-1 (20-25, 26-24, 22-25, 18-25).

Houma Christian is No. 15 in the Division V power rankings and are district rivals of Morgan City’s in-town rival Central Catholic.

Morgan City will head to New Iberia for its next game on Thursday.
