Vandebilt Catholic overwhelms Tigers

Staff Report

MORGAN CITY — The Morgan City Tigers fell to Vandebilt Catholic, 87-72, in District 8-4A action Tuesday.

No individual statistics were available as of this morning.

While the Tigers have suffered close losses in their last two outings, Tuesday’s game, which was Senior Night, was not as close as Morgan City’s recent district contests or Vandebilt’s 55-50 victory against the Tigers in Houma last month.

Morgan City (13-12 overall, 2-7 district), who entered the game as the No. 28 ranked squad in Class 4A according to the latest unofficial Louisiana High School Athletic Association, needed a win to get some breathing room.

Now, the Tigers likely face a must-win game at Assumption Friday to make the field of 32 teams in Class 4A.

Morgan City routed Assumption earlier this season in Morgan City, 55-28.

The Eagles can win the outright title Friday with a victory against Hanson Memorial at home.

Central Catholic (17-4 overall, 6-0 in district) was led by Dontrell Brown, who scored 16 points. Jalen Johnson and Luke Landry also reached double figures with 11 and 10, respectively.

New Iberia

stings Patterson

The loss snaps a six-game winning streak for Patterson.

Daylon Charlot and Mykel Jones led Patterson with eight points each, while Deondre Skinner added six, Nehemiah Augustus had five, and Malik Garrett had three.

Patterson will return to action Friday when they travel to Franklin for a District 9-3A contest.
