Utility aid applications sought
St. Mary Community Action Agency will begin accepting appointments for the Liheap Utility Assistance on Thursday, beginning at 8:30 a.m.
Call the central office at 828-5703, 828-5705 or 828-5753 to set up an appointment.
Anyone who has received assistance in the last 12 months, is not eligible at this time.
The funds are limited and will be taken on a first come first serve basis.
CAA also is accepting applications for the LIHEAP Crisis Utility Assistance Program. Eligibility requirements for this program include:
—Meet the income guideline.
—Must be responsible for paying the utility bill.
—Disconnection notice or Disconnected but have an active account.
—Have not received a crisis assistance benefit during a 12 month period.
—Faced with health and/or safety hazard. (Health condition that prohibits your electric/gas to be off. For example: asthma, diabetic, sleeping disorder, extreme weather conditions, unforeseen bill-ex: car repair, hospital stay, extremely high utility bill.
Everything must be documented through a legitimate source.
To apply for both programs the following information is needed:
—Current proof of income (Last four paystubs, SSI, SSA, retirement, VA)
—Food Stamp printout – (FS printouts must be printed out in 30 days)
—ID for applicant/Social Security cards for everyone in household
—Printout of light and gas bills for last 12 months.
—Additional bill or communication verifying your residence.
Income guidelines: number in household, one, gross monthly income, $1.719; two, $2.248; three, $2,777; four, $3,305; five, $3.834.
