Tigers fall at home to South Terrebonne

MORGAN CITY — Just days after picking up a huge victory on the road against Ellender Memorial, Morgan City couldn’t keep the momentum going at home Tuesday as the squad fell to South Terrebonne, 59-54, in District 8-4A play.

While South Terrebonne took a 32-14 lead into the half, Morgan City outscored the Terrebonne Parish squad 21-12 in the third quarter and 19-15 in the fourth, but it wasn’t enough for a victory.

Tyrin Watts led Morgan City with 30 points while other top contributors included Jaylen Jones with nine and Buddy Humphrey and Taylor Brocato with six apiece.

Morgan City (11-8, 1-1) will return to action Friday when they travel to Vandebilt Catholic for a district contest.

Junior varsity action is set for a 5 p.m. start, while following the girls’ varsity contest, the boys’ varsity squads are set to take the floor at 7:30 p.m.

Patterson remains perfect

in District 9-3A

Patterson outscored Franklin High in every quarter en route to a 63-51 District 9-3A victory Tuesday in Patterson.

The ’Jacks took an 11-10 lead after a quarter and a 26-22 lead into halftime.

Both teams had their best quarter of the night in the third as Patterson put up 22 points and Franklin, 17, for a 48-39 Patterson lead after three quarters.

Deondre Skinner and Jedrick Gunner reached double figures for Patterson with 20 and 11 points, respectively, while other top contributors included Nehemiah Augustus, nine; Larry Turner, eight; Daylon Charlot, five; and Denzel Johnson, four.

Patterson (9-5 overall, 5-0 in District 9-3A) will look to keep its district record perfect Friday when it travels to Erath for district action.

Central Catholic wins

district opener

Central Catholic won its District 8-1A opener on the road Tuesday with a 53-33 victory against Ascension Episcopal.

The game pitted, according to the latest Louisiana Sports Writers Association poll, the No. 2 ranked squad in Class 1A in Central Catholic against Class 1A’s seventh ranked team in Ascension Episcopal.

Dontrell Brown led Central Catholic with 20 points, while Lamar Grogan and Nick Case added nine each.

In junior varsity action, Central Catholic defeated Ascension Episcopal 53-38.

Stefano Guarisco led Central Catholic with 23 points, while Jalen Johnson added 13.

Central Catholic (12-3, 1-0 in District 8-1A) will return to action Friday when it hosts Gueydan in District 8-1A action.

Junior varsity is set for 5 p.m. and following the girls’ varsity contest, the boys’ varsity squads will take the floor.

Berwick falls to Abbeville

The Berwick Panthers fell at home to Abbeville, 65-43, in District 9-3A action in Berwick Tuesday.

Palmer Cox led Berwick with 13 points, while Nicholas Osburn added eight and Chaz Russo and Devin Tabor scored seven apiece.

While Berwick got off to a slow start in the first quarter as it was outscored 16-4, the Panthers put up double digit point totals in the remaining three quarters.

However, it wasn’t enough to overcome Abbeville.

Berwick (6-13 overall, 0-5 in District 9-3A play) will return to action Friday when it hosts Franklin. Junior varsity boys will play at 5 p.m. and varsity boys are set for a 7 p.m. start following the girls’ varsity contest.
