Tigers down E.D. White in crucial district games
By: Staff Reports
Morgan City’s soccer teams traveled to Thibodaux on Wednesday to take on E.D. White with both games decided by a single goal.
The Lady Tigers took the field first and Celeste Williams scored first in the 14th minute on assists from Shannon Theriot. In the second half, the Lady Cardinals came back to tie the game on a free kick, but in the 67th minute Theriot put MCHS ahead for good with her second goal.
“We played a great game,” MCHS coach Trevor Patterson said. “The girls really wanted this win and with it have secured the district runner up and a guaranteed playoff spot.”
The boys also played a close game with Sergize Flores giving the Tigers an early lead in the 19th minute.
The Cardinals came back in the second half to tie the game and with just one minute remaining, they took the win.
“Our goalie, Taylor Mayon, is a senior and had some great saves for us,” MCHS coach Jorge Hernandez said. “We all played well, just came up short of the win.”
Both teams will return to Tiger Stadium on Friday to take on state powerhouse Vandebilt Catholic with the first game set for a 5 p.m. kickoff.
In Wednesday’s The Daily Review, the seniors for each team were listed. Mayon is a senior, but was left out of the boys list. The paper apologizes for the error.
