Thomas Hutchinson to participate in Bayou Bowl

Morgan City High School’s Thomas Hutchinson will get at least one more chance to put on football pads as he participates in Saturday’s 11th annual Bayou Bowl in Baytown, Texas.

Hutchinson, an alternate, actually learned just Sunday that he would be competing for a team made up of players from across Louisiana as a member of the squad when he said another participant withdrew. He said he is “very excited” about participating in the game, which will kick off at 7:07 p.m. at Stallworth Stadium.

“It’s a once-and-a-lifetime chance, and God’s given me the chance to play it,” he said.

Louisiana will play a team comprised of players from the Greater Houston area.

As for what he looks forward to with the experience, Hutchinson said, “The experience of traveling to play football and meeting new people, learning new things and playing against people I’ve never met or seen in my life.”

While Hutchinson said he would like to walk-on to play college football somewhere, he said he was unsure if he would be able to.

“Hopefully it’s not my last,” game, he said.

The Bayou Bowl is a non-profit high school all-star football game that raises monies each year for youth athletic scholarships.

The game will be televised by KTRK Channel 13 in Houston.
