The Thibodaux 10-year-old All-Stars rallied from a 9-0 deficit to defeat the St. Mary Central All-Stars, 14-9, in the District 3 AAA Dixie Youth 10-year-old district tournament championship Wednesday.

The Thibodaux squad started its rally in the bottom of the second, scoring four unearned runs after a two out error.

They added a single run in the third, six runs in the fourth, courtesy of four bunts, two walks, an error and a double to centerfield for an 11-9 lead. The double was the lone Thibodaux hit to leave the infield during the inning.

The Thibodaux squad padded its lead with three more runs in the fifth inning and coasted to victory.

Defensively, Thibodaux held St. Mary Central hitless during the last three innings of the six-inning contest.

While they came out on top, things looked bleak for the Thibodaux squad early as St. Mary Central jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning and pounded out seven more runs in the second inning for a commanding 9-0 lead.

Luke Felterman started the game for St. Mary Central and was relieved by Rustin Ratcliff, Denver Jenkins and Mitchell Frederick.

Leading hitters for St. Mary Central were Seth Giroir (two RBI) and Lucas Hatch (a double and three RBI), who both finished 2-for-3. Others making the stat sheet for St. Mary were Barrett Hover, 1-for-1 with a double, Michael Aucoin, 1-for-1 with an RBI, Stephen Theriot, 1-for-1 and Ratcliff, 1-for-4 with an RBI.

Wednesday’s matchup was the third time these two squads met in the district tournament.

On Friday, St. Mary Central eked out a 3-2 victory, while on Monday, Thibodaux came from behind to defeat St. Mary Central, 6-5.

Monday’s loss, the first in the tournament for St. Mary, left both Thibodaux and St. Mary with one defeat apiece. Thibodaux drew a bye to advance to the championship, while St. Mary Central defeated Morgan City to advance.

With the district championship, Thibodaux will advance to the South Regional in Ponchatoula, while St. Mary Central will advance to the North Regional in Monroe. Both squads will resume postseason play on July 29.
