Theriot St. Mary AARP King for a Day
D.J. Theriot was named King for a Day during the St. Mary AARP meeting held June 6 at the St. Mary Senior Citizens Center, home of St. Mary AARP, in Morgan City.
He was the lucky winner of the drawing held among all fathers participating. Theriot was presented a $25 check, a crown and a boutonniere courtesy of Town & Country Florist.
Whitney Bank was given thanks for their annual donation to the organization of more than $19,000.
Guest speakers for the meeting were Rep. Jeff Landry and Neil Rider, Maison Jardin chief executive officer.
Landry addressed Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security and the proposed changes sought in the Paul Ryan plan.
Rider informed members of services offered at Maison Jardin.
A&M Cooling owners Arvin and Lennie Alleman sponsored the June meal and told of the services they offer.
Alana Duval and Quality Diesel provided watermelons for the meeting.
Dessert of birthday/anniversary cake as provided by M C Bank and cookies were donated by the members.
Gordon Smith sang a patriotic song in honor of Memorial Day.
Vice President Curtis Leonard officiated over most of the meeting. He reminded members of the Wednesday bingo sessions and the chapter meal on June 27 at LeWa’s. Meal tickets are $12.
Members were reminded that nominees for officers and board of St. Mary AARP are now being taken. The election will be Nov. 7. Installation of officers and new board members will be held Dec. 5.
The next St. Mary AARP membership meeting will be July 11 (a week later due to the July 4 holiday). The meal will consist of red beans, rice, sausage, salad and bread sponsored by St. Mary Parish Councilman Gary Duhon.
Entertainment for the July meeting will be Les Danseurs de Bonne Terre of Houma.
