Teurlings Lady Rebels, FSHS Hornets earn HMS Holiday Classic titles

The Teurlings Lady Rebels claimed the girls championship while the Franklin Senior High School Hornets captured the boys title in the 2011 Hanson Holiday Classic Tournament Saturday at the Billy Gene Talbot Gymnasium.

In the girls championship contest, the Teurlings Lady Rebels posted a 52-39 win over the Hanson Memorial Lady Tigers.

The Franklin Hornets earned the boys title with a 57-38 victory over the North Vermilion Patriots.

Teurlings’ Cydney Moreau was named the Most Valuable Player on the Girls All-Tournament team. The Girls All-Tourney team was composed of: Hanson’s Emily Sonnier and Brittney Broussard along with Tuerlings Reagan Duhon, Shea Hebert, Annie Gerand and MVP Cydney Moreau.

The boys All-Tournament team headed up by Franklin’s Avery Bell, who was named the Most Valuable Player. Joining Bell on the All-Tournament team were Franklin’s Michael Polidore, Cedric Paul, Jarion Brown along with North Vermilion’s Kenneth Johnson and Jeremy James.


Cydney Moreau poured in a game-high 19 points to lead the Teurlings Lady Rebels past the Hanson Memorial Lady Tigers to the HMS Holiday Classic title.

Teurlings opened with a 13-6 first quarter lead before holding a 25-14 halftime cushion. The Lady Rebels nursed a 34-27 lead at the end of three quarters en route to the 52-39 win.

Katie Sonnier led the Hanson Lady Tigers with 10 points followed by Mallory Chiasson with nine points.


The Franklin Hornets gained the 2011 Hanson Holiday Tournament title with a 57-38 victory over the North Vermilion Patriots.

Franklin’s leading scorers were Cedric Paul (11), Trevon Anderson (10) and Michael Polidore (10).

Marlon Green led North Vermilion with 11 points.

Teurlings Lady Rebels opened Saturday’s action with a 50-39 victory over the West St. Mary Lady Wolfpack in the girls semifinals. Cydney Moreau tossed in 16 points while Reagan Duhon tallied eight to propel Teurlings.

Amber Joe led the Lady Wolfpack with 16 points.

In the girls consolation, the Morgan City Lady Tigers nipped the Patterson Lady Jills by a score of 44-40. Kasey Chenevert led Morgan City with 18 points while Macy Grogan chipped in nine. Nakia Brookes tallied 12 points with Chyana Williams scoring eight for the Lady Jills.

In the boys consolation, the Centerville Bulldogs handed the Hanson Memorial Tigers a 62-50 setback. Hanson, which held a 12-10 first quarter lead, widened the margin to 27-23 at the half. Centerville used a strong second half surge to turn back the Tigers. The Bulldogs went on a 23-9 flurry in the third quarter before going on a 16-15 run in the final period to pull out the 62-50 win.

Rodrick Taylor scored a game-high 29 points to lead the Bulldogs. Jamanji Washington also scored in double figures, bagging 14 points. Other top scorers for Centerville were: Zacchaeus Jackson, 9; Quinton Nettles, 6; Dontre Austin, 2 and Jwuwan Thomas, 2.

Taylor Barrilleaux led Hanson with 13 points with Chase Businelle adding 11 points. Other top scorers for HMS were:: Austin Bodin, 9; Kameron Clements, 6; Beau Ancona, 4; Garrett Burns, 4; Alex Lancon, 2 and Royce Norton, 1.
