Suspect in July Morgan City shooting incident arrested
MORGAN CITY, La. -- Clauderious Darby, 23, of Grace Street, Morgan City was arrested at 9:35 a.m. Tuesday and charged on warrants for aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm in a firearm-free-school zone.
Darby was also listed by police on the Daily Review’s “St Mary Parish’s Most Wanted” list.
Morgan City Assistant Chief Glenn Blanco said the warrants are the result of a July 5 shooting in the 600 block of Shannon Street. During an investigation, police learned that Darby and Bryson Skinner were involved in a verbal argument with several other people, he stated. The argument got heated and Skinner produced a small-caliber handgun from his waistband and fired one shot in the direction of the people with whom he was arguing, Blanco stated. Skinner attempted to fire another shot, but the gun jammed, Blanco said.
Darby then took the gun from Skinner and tried to fire a second shot but was unsuccessful, he stated.
Darby and Skinner left the area, he stated.
No one was injured in the incident, and warrants subsequently were issued for both men.
Skinner turned himself in on July 13. He later posted a bond of $10,000 and was released.
Darby had been incarcerated at the St. Mary Parish Jail and was released to Morgan City police Tuesday, resulting in the current charges. He remains jailed with no bail set.
