Summit on ethics law slated Saturday
A seminar to provide information to those serving on governmental boards and commissions within St. Mary Parish will be held on Saturday.
The event is being hosted by the District 1 Leadership Team, with the support of the parish council and the Board of Commissioners of Recreation District 5. It will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the West St. Mary Civic Center located at 1498 La. 318.
Information on the Louisiana Revised Statutes, Governmental Codes of Ethics, financial management, operating policies and procedures, and general governance responsibilities that affect the operating procedures of all such public boards, commissions and advisory committees will be presented.
Featured presentations and materials include that of representatives of the 16th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, Pitts & Matte CPAs, Louisiana Attorney General’s Office, and the Louisiana Ethics Administration. Lunch will also be provided.
All appointees to various boards and commissions, as well as advisory committees that serve St. Mary Parish are urged to participate in this summit.
While participation is not mandatory, all are strongly urged to attend pursuant to Louisiana Revised Statutes 42§1170, which summarizes that anyone deemed a “public servant” will be required to receive an hour of education and training on the ethics codes annually beginning in 2012.
