New Iberia man dies in single vehicle crash in St. Mary Parish

St. Mary Parish -- A single vehicle crash on La. 318 near Gibbs Road has claimed the life of a 65-year-old New Iberia man, Louisiana State Police report.
Last night at 6:40,
George Carter of New Iberia, was driving a 2009 Dodge truck east on La. 318 approaching a right curve about about 6:40 p.m. Saturday, police stated.
Carter traveled off the left side of the road and struck several trees, the report stated.  After striking the trees, Carter’s vehicle caught fire, police said.
Carter was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Mary Parish coroner, he report stated.
Troopers are still working to determine if Carter was wearing a seat belt when the crash occurred.
It is unknown if Carter was impaired when the crash occurred, police stated.  Routine toxicology samples have been obtained and will be submitted to the State Police Crime Lab for analysis. 
This crash remains under investigation.
