Man attempts suicide in St. Martinville courtroom
ST. MARTINVILLE, La. (AP) — Prosecutors say a man who was found guilty in a St. Martinville courtroom of five counts of aggravated incest attempted suicide in the courtroom.
St. Martin Parish Assistant District Attorney Chester Cedars tells KATC TV (http://bit.ly/1nRQJHk) the jury had already been excused Thursday when the man stood up and said he would kill himself before going to jail.
Cedars said the man then used a small razor blade to slit his throat and both of his wrists.
He said the court was about to take the defendant into custody when he attempted suicide.
Deputies say the defendant is being treated for his injuries.
