4-year-old Dulac boy found dead in waterway

HOUMA, La. (AP) — The body of a 4-year-old Dulac boy was found Friday afternoon in Grand Caillou Bayou, several hours after being reported missing by his parents, authorities said.
Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's spokeswoman Dawn Foret tells The Courier (http://bit.ly/1nAFhv0 ) Water Patrol deputies recovered Ja-son Ross' body from the water, directly across the street from the family's home, around 1:45 p.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The child's mother told investigators she had left him in his father's care after leaving for work earlier Friday. When she returned around noon, she saw that the front door was wide open, the child was missing and his father asleep, Foret said.
The family as well as neighbors began searching the area for the child, Foret said. Two dozen sheriff's employees and volunteers from the Grand Caillou Volunteer Fire Department canvassed the area as well, Foret said.
A cause of death has not been determined; an autopsy by the Terrebonne Parish Coroner's Office is scheduled, Foret said.
Foul play is not suspected, but the incident is still under investigation, she said.
