St. Mary Parish Summer Reading Program offers entertainment
A summer line-up of professional entertainment provided at all branch locations of the St. Mary Parish Library System began this week as part of its Summer Reading Program. An energetic performance by Daphne Chatman Thomas took youth at the Patterson Branch Library on a virtual trip around the world, learning from Thomas’ antics about other countries and cultures.

Magician Matthew Noel will perform at 2 p.m. June 18 in Patterson, at 2 p.m. June 19 at Bayou Vista Branch Library and at Noel will also perform at the Bayou Vista Branch on June 19, at 2 p.m. and at 10 a.m. June 20 at Berwick Branch Library. Magician
Noel has been combining his magic, juggling and yo-yo skills to entertain and delight youngsters for the past 10 years with his comedic act.
Bayou Vista will host The Cajun Swap Lady at 10 a.m. on June 26 with subsequent performances at Patterson at 2 p.m. on June 27, and at Amelia Branch Library at 10 a.m. and Berwick at 2 p.m. on June 28.
Children will take an imaginary journey with Tante’ Bosalyn, The Cajun Swamp Lady, to her houseboat in the Atchafalaya Basin where she cooks up fish tales and tall tales geared to jumpstarting young imaginations.
Stanford University educated artist Trish Ransom will conduct a Fish–Making Workshop at the Bayou Vista Branch on July 3. Registration for her workshops is required by calling 985-399-9866 before the date of the event. Class size is limited.
On July 5, the Harvey Rabbit and Friends show will be held at 10 a.m. in Bayou Vista. Cecil the Orangutan and T-Boy the Alligator will join Harvey the Talking Rabbit, when Laura and Tim Allured combine ventriloquism with puppetry, music and magic in their comedy show that has now become a tradition at the St. Mary Parish Summer program.
