St. Mary Parish sheriff reports New Year's Eve shooting in Amelia
AMELIA, La. -- A man was shot on New Year’s Eve just before midnight in Amelia, according to the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office in a news release Thursday afternoon.
The St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office responded to a complaint of a shooting at 12:01 a.m. Monday at the 100 block of Westside Park Lane in Amelia. Upon arrival deputies located a Hispanic male victim lying on the ground with two gunshot wounds to the upper torso.
The victim was taken to a local hospital where he remains in critical condition. Detectives investigating the shooting received information that an older model, red pickup truck occupied by three black males drove to Westside Park Lane, the release stated.
One of the males exited the pickup truck with a gun. The victim then confronted the man and was shot. Detectives are asking for the public's assistance in identifying the gunman.
