St. Mary AARP holds meeting Aug. 1
Nearly 300 St. Mary AARP members attended the organization’s Aug. 1 meeting at the St. Mary Senior Citizens Center in Morgan City.
Members were treated to a meal of meat sauce spaghetti, salad, dessert and a drink. Meal sponsor Darrin Guidry, a candidate for state senate, addressed members following dinner.
St. Mary AARP President Paul Vella presided over the meeting.
Hubert Francis sang the National Anthem and AARP Secretary Beverly Vella offered a prayer for deceased members.
Everyone was invited to the Aug. 24 St. Mary AARP Anniversary cerebration set from 3 to 7 p.m. at the center. Live country music will by the Hubert Francis and Gene Callahan band.
Finger sandwiches, sausage and meat balls plus other food will be served. A giant anniversary cake depicting the St. Mary AARP logo plus edible pictures of the board members will be on hand.
The anniversary celebration is only for St. Mary AARP members and their invited guests.

—The next St. Mary AARP dance at the center is Aug. 13 from 7 to 11 p.m. with music by the Morgan Blanchard band. Advance tickets are $6. Tickets at the door are $10. It is open to St. Mary AARP members and their guests.
—St. Mary AARP will hold its September meeting a week late due to Labor Day. The Sept. 12 meal will be sponsored by Bret Allain, a candidate for state senate. The AARP Players will present a the play titled “A Bus Called Home.” Les Danseur de Bonne Terre from Houma will perform.
