St. Martin Parish recreation tax OK’d
STEPHENSVILLE — Lower St. Martin Parish voters overwhelmingly approved a 2.5-mill recreation tax renewal Tuesday.
The measure that affects Stephensville and Belle River residents was approved by 69 percent or 446 voters. Against the measure were 203 voters for 31 percent of the vote, according to complete but unofficial election results from the Louisiana Secretary of State’s office.
The property tax is estimated to continue collecting $39,300 each year through 2022 to support the project. Recreation district officials said the money will be used for continued improvements at the parks in each community.
