Centerville Stars to play in International Biddy Tournament

CENTERVILLE _ The Centerville 11-and-12-year-old Biddy Basketball Stars qualified for the International Biddy All-Star Tournament in Kansas City, Missouri after capturing the Regional 1 Biddy Tournament Championship in Patterson recently.
The Centerville Biddy Team departed Centerville for Kansas City early Thursday morning to compete in the upcoming International Biddy Tournament which Centerville will be the No. 1 seed in the International Tournament which will be held March 14-19 in Kansas City, Missouri. The International Tournament opens pool play on Saturday and Sunday before the double-elimination tournament is set for Monday through Wednesday.
Twelve players and three coaches make up the 2014 Centerville Biddy All-Stars who captured the Regional Title en route to making the first journey to the International Tournament for the first time in nearly 10 years. The 12-members of the team are: Jaylon Williams; Randy Paul Jr.; Brian Sonnier; Jarius Boyd; Marquis Strawder; E’Jarion Gibson; Dre’ Burris; Bently Alcina; Brandon Latigue Jr; Devin Monette; Jayvien Thomas and Ryan Young. Coaches are Randy Paul Sr., Ragan Alcina and Chris Riles. A local contigent of parents left Centerville early Friday morning to attend the International Tournament in Missouri.
“It’s an amazing feat winning the Regional 1 Tournament and qualifying for the International Tournament in Kansas City,” Coach Randy Paul said. “We are skilled at every position with tenacious defense. We are well-rounded with solid offense and defense while we also find a way to win.”
In finding a way to win, the Centerville Biddy All-Stars posted a flawless 4-0 record capturing the Region 1 Championship behind consecutive wins over Raceland after stringing together victories over Patterson and Thibodaux in the opening rounds of the Region 1 Tournament.
Centerville opened tournament play with a 58-22 triumph over the Patterson All-Stars.
Centerville’s Jaylon Williams led the Centerville All-Stars with a game-high 30 points. Randy Paul Jr. and Brian Sonnier tossed in 11 points apiece while Jarius Boyd and Marquis Strawder fired in two each with EJarion Gibson and Dre Buriss scored one point each.
In Game 2, Centerville knocked off Thibodaux by a score of 38-34.
Jaylon Williams poured in a team-high 16 points to help propel Centerville. Randy Paul Jr added eight points while Brian Sonnier tallied seven points with Bently Alcina and Marquis Strawder bagging three points each and Jarius Boyd firing in two points.
Centerville came up on the winning end of a hotly-contested battle against Raceland in the semifinals by a score of 43-40 in Game 3.
Jaylon Williams and Brian Sonnier contributed 15 points each to lead Centerville while B.J. LaTigue canned four points with Bently Alcina draining three points and Randy Paul knocking down two points.
In the finals, Centerville notched its second straight victory over Raceland by a final score of 44-28.
Jaylon Williams fired in a game-high 24 points with Brian Sonnier and Marquis Strauder scoring six points apiece. Jarius Boyd finished with five points while Randy Paul added one point.
Centerville’s Jaylon Williams tallied an incredible 84 points over four games with totals of 30, 24, 15 and 15 points.
