SMC 10s to face Ville Platte
The St. Mary Central 10-year-old All-Stars dodged the rain to play three games over the weekend in Ponchatoula, winning two.
The SMC 10’s were rained out on Friday so two games were played on Saturday.
In the first game Saturday morning the local stars lost to Morehouse, 9-8. Ryan Domingue took the loss on the mound, tossing two innings. The leading hitters for SMC were Scott Boudreaux, 2-for-4; Zeph Hoffpauir, 1-for-3, an RBI; Evan Thomas, 1-for-2, 2 RBIs; Hunter Landry, 1-for-3; and Eric Guillot, 1-for-1, 2 RBIs.
In Saturday’s night game, SMC exploded on Ponchatoula, 19-1. The 10’s pounded out 14 big hits in the runaway win. Matt Whittington pitched three innings for the pitching victory while Seth Canty threw an inning in relief.
The leading offensive players were Shayne Berger, 1-for-4 with an RBI; Hoffpauir, 2-for-3, 3 RBIs; Dayton Clark, 2-for-4, RBI; Thomas, 1-for-2, 2 RBIs; Luke Boudreaux, 1-for-2; Whittington, 2-for-2, RBI; and Domingue, 2-for-2.
St. Mary Central’s 10’s upended Gonzales, 13-6, in Sunday’s finale. Hoffpauir went all six innings to notch the win on the mound.
Offensive standouts were Berger, Hoffpauir and Landry, all 1-for-2; Boudreaux and Guillot, both 1-for-3; Clark, 1-for-3, an RBI; Thomas, 1-for-1, 2 RBIs; Canty and Guillot, both 1-for-1, an RBI; Domingue, an RBI; and Kyle Valdez, 2 RBIs.
“That win basically put us in the semis,” assistant coach Joe Guillot said.
St. Mary Central plays Ville Platte today at 5:30 p.m.
