Poor defensive play hurts Halimar in loss

Poor defensive play hurt Halimar Shipyard in its 5-3 loss to Trinity Tools (Covenant Christian) Tuesday in Houma, Halimar coach Tyler Jensen said.

“We didn’t play well defensively at all,” he said Wednesday afternoon. “We made a lot of mistakes we normally don’t make, and it led to runs.”

Bryson Barbier suffered the loss. In six innings, he surrendered five runs but just two of those were earned. He also gave up five hits and four walks while striking out five.

At the plate, Barbier finished 2-for-4, while Charlie Barron was 1-for-2 with an RBI.

Other top contributors included Tyler Hoffpauir and Tony Pennison, each 1-for-3 with an RBI.

“I thought we hit the ball harder today, but just right at them,” Jensen said.

Halimar (1-1) will return to action today when it travels to face Jester’s Court (Central Lafourche). Junior varsity action is set for a 5 p.m. start with varsity to follow at 7 p.m.

In other action today, Patterson (0-2) will host Synergy Bank (E.D. White), while Taco Bell (Berwick) (2-0) will host Sanders Holdings. Junior varsity action in both games will begin at 5 p.m., while varsity games for each will begin at 7 p.m.
