Shrimp boat strikes bridge in Morgan City
A shrimp boat lost steering control and hit the Railroad Bridge connecting Morgan City and Berwick around 6:45 a.m. today, but there were no damage, injuries or pollution, Coast Guard Lt. Sandy Carmine of the Marine Safety Unit in Morgan City said. An assist tugboat pulled the shrimp boat to the pier in Morgan City, Carmine said. The boat lost steering probably due to a broken hydraulic hose on the boat, but the boat is functioning properly again, she said. A train that was approaching was able to be stopped in time and successfully passed over the bridge around 9 a.m. today, she said.
