Shooting range reopens Wed.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff’ Mark Hebert has announced that the shooting range will reopen to the public on Wednesday.
Operating hours will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday.
The range closed temporarily in late March to accommodate the completion of berm work and other general maintenance projects. The down time also allowed for the installation of an archery range. The new addition is ready to go with 12 3-D targets and two additional targets for sighting in equipment.
Each set of archery targets varies in distance. The targets range up to 30 to 35 yards. There are six lanes with two 3-D targets per lane, offering two separate distances per lane to shoot. Targets can be adjusted out to approximately 40 yards. The new archery range will be open to all archery enthusiasts.
The range is located off of the service road along the south U.S. 90. A newly erected sign now marks the location. From Franklin take the service road east under the U.S. 90 overpass at the Chatsworth Road and Willow Street intersection. The range will be on the right. Persons come from the east take La. 317, cross over the railroad tracks, and take a right onto Alice C Road. From Alice C. turn left onto the service road. The range will be on the left. There are no costs or fees to use the range.
