Sheriff’s Department investigating Berwick area rape

Few details are available on a rape reported to authorities Thursday night.

The 30-year-old female victim reported the incident to the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Department at 6:20 p.m. Thursday. It allegedly occurred on River Road in Berwick.

Sheriff Mark Hebert declined this morning to discuss whether the incident involved a stranger or was domestic in nature.

He said the investigation is ongoing.

Elsewhere, Dejay Lamperez, 20, of Shell Beach Road in Pierre Part and Miranda Sedatol, 20, of North Third Street in Pierre Part were arrested Friday at 2:44 p.m. for possession of synthetic cannabinoids. Lamperez also was charged with abuse of toxic vapors and Sedatol was additionally charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

Hebert said St. Mary Multi-Jurisdictional Narcotics Task Force agents were patrolling Everett and Sixth streets in Morgan City when they conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle which failed to use a turn signal.

During the investigation, agents located synthetic cannabinoids in the vehicle and in a passenger’s purse, along with drug paraphernalia, the sheriff said.

A deputy was called to Degravelle Road to investigate a battery. Lally told the deputy that he was struck by another person with a piece of wood. The deputy located the other person and witnesses and learned that the other person had asked Lally to turn off his TV when Lally jumped out of his bed and came at the other person with a knife, the sheriff said.

Witnesses said that is when the second person picked up a stick and struck Lally who then threw a knife at the first person, according to the sheriff.
