Shadowlawn hosts framing event

Shadowlawn and the Frame Shop will host a presentation on conservation framing.

Join mother-daughter duo Jackie and Deborah Price on Sept. 7 at 11 a.m. as they guide a journey of discovery about design and components and what goes on behind the piece of glass when something is framed.

Throughout history frames have reflected trends in art, architecture and social fashion. To suit the incredibly diverse range of artwork and interior design that is popular today, picture framers need a tremendous variety of material choices as well as vast knowledge of conservation and archival methods.

Throw in some chemistry, color theory, design, math, customer service, woodworking skills and a host of other things and you have the professional custom framer.

“We are not just carpenters nailing together four sticks of molding,” Deborah Price said. “Our knowledge base has grown over the 50 years we’ve been in the custom framing industry, and continues to expand every time we attend continuing education seminars and conferences.”

Currently, Deborah is the only Certified Picture Framer in the tri-city area.

As an added bonus, Deborah and Jackie invite participants to bring one or two pieces of artwork to the presentation. These can be items someone has been wanting to do something with, or they can be things that were framed for many years and need a fresh new look.

Jackie and Deborah will discuss available options and give their expert advice on the best approach to framing each piece. They will not actually be designing or choosing mats and frames at this presentation – just talking about the components needed. If participants decide to actually have a piece framed or re-worked, a portion of the final sales price will be donated to Shadowlawn.

Shadowlawn is at 905 Main St. in Franklin. The presentation is free but seating limited to the first 12 to register. Call 337-578-8147 or 985-385-0730.
