School administrative appointments announced

CENTERVILLE, La. -- Numerous St. Mary Parish school administrative appointments for the 2013-14 school year were made this week.

Superintendent Donald Aguillard said a special committee interview process that included principals and teachers along with central office staff was used to name administrators to their posts.

During the April meeting, the school board approved additional assistant principal positions at Bayou Vista Elementary, Berwick Elementary and Patterson Junior High schools due to increasing enrollment. Additionally, the retirements of Elaine Cureton and Ronald Hawkins resulted in vacant principal positions at both Norman and LaGrange elementary schools. Finally, the non-renewal of two administrative contracts created openings at both Morgan City High and Franklin Junior High schools.

Appointed to the new assistant principal positions are Carol St. Germain at Bayou Vista Elementary, Shantell Toups (pending official notification of certification) at Berwick Elementary and Steve Russo at Patterson Junior High.

Aguillard appointed Shannon Hoffpauir, now assistant principal at Hattie Watts Elementary, as principal of Norman Elementary. Meanwhile, Paul Godfrey will leave his position as assistant principal of Raintree Elementary to serve as LaGrange Elementary principal. Replacing Hoffpauir and Godfrey in assistant principal positions will be Brandy Breaux at Hattie Watts and Markita Grant at Raintree.

Additionally, a requested medical leave by Berwick Junior High School’s principal Tommy Bourgeois led to the transfer of instructional program manager Teresa Bagwell to serve as acting principal of Berwick Junior High.

Morgan City High will add Carmen LaGarde as an assistant principal, and Kiante Gunner will become the assistant principal at Franklin Junior High to fill the open positions left by the contracts that were not renewed.

Candidates receiving administrative appointments were notified of their promotions this week to facilitate smooth transitions and to provide ample time for collaboration and training in new policies and mandates as well as the ongoing transition to Common Core State Standards, Aguillard said in a news release.

Officially appointments will become effective in accordance with the district’s administrative calendar and may reflect a school’s particular circumstance, Aguillard said.
