Robert Miller, engineer, dies at 89
Mr. Robert “Bob” Edward Miller Jr., 89, a native and resident of Franklin, passed away Sunday, July 3, 2011 at the Franklin Foundation Hospital.
Miller was president of Miller Engineers & Associates until his retirement in 1987.
The firm was originally T.F. Kramer Engineer Inc. until 1966, when it merged with Miller and became Kramer and Miller Engineers.
In the early 1980s, Kramer left the business and it became Thomas and Miller. Miller purchased the rest of the company from Thomas, a land surveyor from Berwick, in about 1985.
He was also city engineer for Franklin in the early 1950s, and engineer for St. Mary Parish until 1965.
Mr. Miller is survived by his three sons, Glenn Miller and his wife, Mary Kathryn, of Baldwin; Lamon Miller and his wife, Patricia, of Franklin and Robert Miller III and his wife, Mechelle, of Lafayette; his sister, Grace Braud of Verdunville; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Landry Miller; his parents, Robert and Irma Cunningham Miller; his brothers, Carl Joseph Miller and Gerald Miller; his sisters, Ursula Miller Carmichael and Hilda Miller.
The family requests that visitation be observed Tuesday, July 5, 2011, from 10 a.m. until time of services, at Ibert’s Mortuary in Franklin.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 5, 2011, at 2 p.m., at Ibert’s Mortuary in Franklin, with Father Lloyd Benoit officiating. Burial will follow in the Franklin Cemetery.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Mr. Miller’s name to either the American Legion Post 63, the Church of the Assumption or to the Emergency Aid Center.
