Relay for Life kicking off Saturday evening at FSHS
Relay for Life kicks off Saturday at J.C. Dry Stadium on the campus of Franklin Senior High School.
Events include a car and truck show, arts and crafts fair, fun jumps and other activities as well as contests and good fun.

The local event’s theme is Groovin’ For a Cure.
Entertainment will feature Addie Miguez, Ricky Lorenzo, Dr. Chua & the Filipino Friends of Acadiana, The 5 O’Clock Shadows, Flashback and more.
“I am so lucky to have been chosen as the American Cancer Society staff partner for the Franklin Relay for Life,” said Megan Lerch, American Cancer Society staff partner and local organizer. “I am extremely proud of the committee, team captains, volunteers and the Franklin community. The excitement within the community is heartwarming. Everyone has been very welcoming and I cannot wait to watch the whole community come together for such a great cause.
The opening ceremony is at 4 p.m. with presentation of the colors and the teams’ lap around the track.
A Survivor Celebration will be held at 5 p.m.; winners of the car show including the winner of the Survivor Trophy in the car show is at 7:30 p.m.
The Silent Walk and Luminaria Ceremony will be held at 9 p.m. along with fireworks.
“Come out to support a new beginning for someone and help us celebrate, remember and fight back,” said Toddy Boudreaux, local event chairman.
Relay for Life continues through 6 a.m. Sunday.
“Bring the family, a chair and your dancing shoes and come enjoy all the fun and entertainment at this year’s Relay for Life of Franklin,” Angie Norris, local co-chairman said.
