Registration for city arts, dance program wraps up Tuesday

Parents and guardians can register their children for the Bayou Beaux Arts and Dance Program by e-mail or in person.

Registration for the Bayou Beaux Arts and Dance Program will end Tuesday at 5 p.m. in the Office of Community Development on the second floor of City Hall in Franklin. There will be wait-list spots. A class will be considered closed when the open and the wait-list spots are filled. Those on the waiting list will be contacted if there is a change in a class’s enrollment.

Instructions for e-mail registration are on the City of Franklin’s Web site ( Parents and guardians should click on the “Events Calendar.” Next, they should go to the month of May and click on “May 1” for complete instructions. Parents and guardians will receive an e-mail if their child is registered, if information is missing, if their child is on the wait list, or if a class is closed. The time stamp on the e-mail will be used as the order by which to enroll students. If information is missing, parents and guardians will receive an e-mail and must submit the missing information as soon as possible to make sure their child is registered.

According to Arlana Shields, Community Development Director for the City of Franklin, “The dance classes are more than half filled, while slots for the arts classes are available. However, parents and guardians should not wait to enroll their children.”

Dance classes will be held at Broussard-Harris Recreation Center and are open to children 7 to 18 years old. Classes begin June 8 and end Aug. 3.

The fine arts classes will be taught at Franklin Recreation Center for young people 13 to 18 years old. The drawing classes and encaustics classes will take place July 14, 21 and 28, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Acrylics will be July 26-27, from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. July 28.

The Bayou Beaux Arts and Dance Program will host its dance performance and art show on Aug. 4, at 5 p.m. at the Broussard-Harris Recreation Center in Franklin.
