Registration begins for pre-kindergarten thru 1st grade (updated with correct dates)
St. Mary Parish public schools will begin registration for 2013-14 pre-kindergarten, kindergarten and first grade students at area schools.
All pre-kindergarten students must be 4 years old and all kindergarten students must be 5 years old on or before Sept. 30 for the coming school year. Any student entering first grade in the fall and not currently enrolled in a public school kindergarten should register on the designated registration days as well.
Registration for public elementary schools in St. Mary Parish will be held from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Monday, March 25, through Wednesday, March 27, at the school in the student’s attendance zone.
Specifically at Hattie Watts Elementary, registration will be held from 8:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. Parents of pre-kindergarten students at the school are asked to attend Tuesday, and parents of kindergarten students are asked to attend registration Wednesday.
Early registration is essential as it enables the school system to plan for personnel and teaching materials, Superintendent Donald Aguillard said.
Once registered, the pre-kindergarten teachers at each school site will contact parents of potential pre-kindergarten students to set up screening tests, which are required for admittance to St. Mary Parish pre-kindergarten classes.
Parents are asked to bring the following information on the day of registration:
—Social Security card.
—Proof of residency.
—Proof of income (pre-kindergarten students only).
