Record La. Shrimp & Petroleum Festival crowds expected

MORGAN CITY, La. -- Record crowds are anticipated for the 78th edition of the Louisiana Shrimp and Petroleum Festival slated to begin Thursday.

The predictions of good weather and a massive, multi-state advertising push are bringing maximum capacity vendors as well as visitors, Lee Darce, festival assistant and vendor chairwoman, said.

Darce said she has had “record, good participation this year,” in registration for the Children’s Day events, Blessing of the Fleet and Boat Parade, and Best Seats in the House.

Co-sponsored by the festival and Amelia Belle Casino, the winner and three guests can bring their most comfortable lawn chairs and enjoy the music from the gazebo in Lawrence Park during each evening’s headline performance. The winner also will receive complimentary refreshments, a festival T-shirt, rolled poster and other gifts.
