Radio controlled cars set to race in Patterson
PATTERSON, La. — Tri City RC will host Round 3 of the Louisiana Club Race Championship Saturday.
The local leg is part of a series race to benefit south Louisiana remote control car racers and tracks. Between 35 and 50 racers are expected to take to the track located on the south side of the railroad tracks in Patterson next to Pete’s Auto.
Other races in this series are being held at St. Charles Raceway in Destrehan, RC Power in Springfield and Finishline in Lafayette.
The goal, according to Paula Blakeman, with Tri City RC, is to attract only South Louisiana racers and to give them their own field to compete in. This keeps them from having travel expenses when they go to races across the Gulf Coast or having to give up on their normal club races in order to compete in a series because of costs.
Both children and adults participate in the races. This particular series is geared toward the sportsman club racers, so the sportsman and kids class races will be the main events. Experts will take the back seat and run the earlier races.
All of Saturday’s races are open to the public. Qualifying begins at 1 p.m. and there is no admission for spectators. Tri City RC track is a non-profit organization.
Bleachers are available, but chairs are welcome. Burgers, chips and drinks will be sold.
Also, the group encourages spectators to walk around and visit with the racers.
