Poche is celebrant for fleet blessing

The Rev. Danny Poche will be the celebrant for Sunday’s Blessing of the Fleet on the Atchafalaya River.

Poche, pastor of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Morgan City, also serves as an advocate on the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux Tribunal.

Poche came to Morgan City from St. Hilary of Poitiers Church in Mathews after 12 years of service. His other posts have included St. Francis de Sales and St. Bernadette, both in Houma.

He graduated from St. John Prep School in New Orleans in 1968, St. Joseph Seminary College in St. Benedict in 1972, Nicholls State University in 1974 and Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans in 1978. Poche was ordained March 4, 1978, at St. Francis de Sales Cathedral in Houma by Bishop Warren L. Boudreaux. He celebrated his first solemn Mass at the same church the next day.

The Blessing of the Fleet and water parade is set for 10 a.m. to noon Sunday and is sponsored by Tidewater. The Big Fun Brass Band will lead a procession to the river from the Festival Office on Second Street.
