Patterson falls; CCHS, BHS win
PATTERSON — The Patterson Lumberjills suffered their first loss of the season Thursday as Thibodaux High knocked off the locals in straight sets, 25-20, 25-19, 25-12.
Arian Grogan recorded five aces, six points and a kill for the Lumberjills, while Gaylen Grogan had an ace, two points, four kills and a dig.
Other top contributors included Kailyn Johnson, a kill and four assists; and Nyria Robinson, three kills.
In junior varsity action, Patterson fell 25-12, 25-16.
Jasmine Roberson had one ace, a point, a kill and two digs for Patterson, while Nia Broussard had an ace, a kill, a dig and two assists.
Other top contributors included Jazmin Evans, an ace, three points, a kill and a dig; Irenesha Kinchen, four digs; Brianna Gray, two kills; and Kaitlynn Spradling, two aces.
Patterson (2-1) will return to action Tuesday when it travels to Beau Chene. Action is set for a 4 p.m. start.
Central Catholic wins two at HLB tourney.
Central Catholic went 2-0 at H.L. Bourgeois’ tournament Thursday with wins against Belle Chasse and H.L. Bourgeois.
In the Lady Eagles’ 25-20, 25-22 win against Belle Chasse, Gee Garrett had 12 kills and two blocks, while Meo Knight recorded nine kills, five blocks and nine digs. Kaitlyn Gros also contributed 24 assists and eight digs.
Against H.L. Bourgeois, the Lady Eagles won 25-21, 23-25, 15-12.
Knight recorded 13 kills and four blocks, while Garrett had nine kills and four blocks and Kaitlyn Gros added 26 assists and eight digs.
The Lady Eagles (5-2) will return to action in the tournament on Saturday.
Berwick defeats Franklin
Berwick defeated Franklin on the road Thursday, 3-0 (25-6, 25-18, 25-16).
Ashton Morales had three aces, a kill, eight assists and two digs for Berwick, while Brie Hill added an ace, six kills and six digs.
Other top contributors included Jeanne Marie Hidalgo, six aces and a dig; Diana Grace Guarisco, an ace, a kill, three assists and four digs; McKenzie Baumgartner, two kills, an assist, a dig and a block; and Hannah Carpenter, two aces and five digs.
In junior varsity action, Berwick won 25-2, 25-10.
Berwick (4-3) will return to action Monday when it travels to face Ellender. Freshmen action is set for a 4 p.m. start with junior varsity and varsity action to follow.
