The St. Mary branch of the NAACP is hosting its annual Freedom Fund Banquet Aug. 17.
The banquet will begin at 7 p.m. at the Morgan City Auditorium, 705 Myrtle St. in Morgan City.
In addition to entertainment and a keynote speaker, this year’s banquet will spotlight individuals in St. Mary Parish. Honorees this year will include individuals to be recognized with the Business/Entrepreneur Award; Community Service Award; Education Award; Law & Justice Award; Media & Journalism Award; Medicine & Health Award; Political & Government Award; and Religious Service Award.
The NAACP has been at the forefront of civil rights for over a century, according to Reginald D. Weary, St. Mary Branch president. “The mission of the NAACP is to ensure the political, educational, social and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate race-based discrimination. The NAACP has been addressing such issues throughout St. Mary Parish for over 50 years.”
Tickets can be purchased for $25 per person. This event also serves as a fundraiser for the local NAACP branch. Corporate and organization sponsorships are available. For more information contact Betty Young 337-836-1635 or Kimberlin Frank 985-255-3514.
