One charged in Baldwin shooting

A Baldwin man is under arrest on a charge of attempted second degree murder.

Police Chief Gerald Minor said a shooting in the area of Railroad Street and Orphan Home Road Tuesday at about 7:30 p.m. was a domestic dispute.

Robert Hatcherson Jr., 30, of Railroad Avenue, is accused of shooting Ronald Balier, approximately age 60, of Collins Street, twice with a handgun.

The dispute was regarding Balier’s daughter, Minor said.

Hatcherson was located in the Collins Street area and surrendered to authorities. The weapon was recovered. No bond was set.

Balier was transported to Franklin Foundation Hospital and then to Our Lady of Lourdes in Lafayette where he is in critical condition, Minor said.
