Ohlin is an honorable mention selection
From Staff Reports
The Berwick Lady Panthers had one selection on the Class 3A All-State softball team.
Junior shortstop Abigail Ohlin made the squad as an honorable mention selection.
“I think Abigail Ohlin’s big time,” BHS coach Lloyd Burchfield said today. “I think she can play at the next level. She’s got all the tools. I believe with all those tools somebody’s going to be lucky to get her. She’s our leadoff hitter. I feel like she makes the team go. She’s a real difference maker for us.”
During her junior season, Ohlin batted .452, drove in 18 RBI and scored 32 runs. She also had a .607 on-base percentage.
This summer, Burchfield said his standout shortstop would be playing travel ball for a Lafayette-based team where she will get more exposure. She will be playing on the same team as University of Louisiana at Lafayette co-coaches Michael and Stefni Lotief’s daughter.
“She’s going to get to be seen a lot by them,” Burchfield said. “ULL’s big time, but I think Abigail’s big time. I think she can play for them.”
Mikayla Brown of Class 3A champion Buckeye was selected as Most Valuable Player, while Iowa’s Cason Robison was named Coach of the Year. Brown, a pitcher, finished the year with a 25-2 record, a 0.84 ERA and also hit .364 with 24 RBI. Robison’s softball squad made it to the Class 3A semifinals.
